Trekking across the Iceland ice cap
Cameron M. Smith is an explorer and archaeologist based in Portland, Oregon, USA. Cameron has recently completed the first West to East solo ski traverse of Iceland's Vatnajokull ice cap, alone in winter. The expedition took 29 days to cover 140km (86 miles) and was made nearly entirely in storm conditions. This expedion was his FOURTH attempt in as many years, and Cameron's slide collection includes images from the ice cap edge, the inland ice, his equipment and activities, and some landscapes. In addition to being the first to make this trek, Cameron was testing a novel new system for Arctic travel in winter: a 'sled-hut' which contains supplies but also opens into a shelter in which one camps and sleeps. Cameron's slides include images of life inside this unusual shelter. Complete text and image packages will be available to editors by mid-April.

He has an extensive collection of unique 35mm slides taken during 20 years of expeditions from Africa to Scotland, Alaska, South America and Iceland.

Gary Goodwin of International Photobank has been up the creek without a paddle in Dubai, but, you guessed it, with his camera. The results from his trip will give the library’s clients the opportunity to view brand new pictures from this up and coming tourist destination. Gary was amazed at the modernistic architecture and the way of life of the people of Dubai.

He assures us he did not waste time spending money in the gold souk’s but instead was out on a creek ferry capturing the warm evening sun playing on the futuristic skyline.
